Contemplative Prayer
In times past people who wanted to live a spiritual life joined a monastic community. However the contemplative approach to life can be applied to any context. We just need to create quiet spaces in our life.
Having spent much time in evangelical churches, I have discovered there exists considerable suspicion about contemplative prayer, as its background is more in the catholic tradition. If Christianity is to be relevant in a postmodern world, I believe that a more ecumenical approach is appropriate, and that Christians can learn from each other. No one church has a complete version of Christian Spirituality, and it is rather sad to see the number of web sites that are negative about this practice.
I like many other people have found that contemplative prayer has been helpful to my personal life, and hope to share some ideas on how to start.
I also hope to address some of its criticisms and describe its benefits.
